Recommendable Podcast: Accessibility

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

W3C LogoThrough a comment on heise.de I stumbled upon a podcast that deals with accessibility in the www. It’s recorded by the chaos computer club during a chaos-radio broadcast. They talk about the “how to design a website” and which types of handicap exist and how you can make whose lives easier. They also outline the new Web Content Accessibility Guidelines with the four basic principles Perceivable, Operable, Understandable and Robust. They also created a interesting draft for making ajax-applications accessible for handicapped users.

The podcast can be found under the following url: http://chaosradio.ccc.de/cre107.html

Easier Jaunty Mouse Cursor Fix

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Belonging to this posting I want to present you an easier way to fix the cursor bug caused by the radeon opensource driver.

  • Add two new entries to your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tormodvolden/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tormodvolden/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
  • Add PPA Key from Tormod Volden (sudo apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 0×4b1e287796dd5c9a)
  • Upgrade Drivers (sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade)
  • Reboot Box and have fun

Afterwards you can remove the last added entries from the sources.list if you want.

Violin strings meet Hiphop

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Black Violin Recently I heard a song of the band Black Violin in the radio. I was impressed how nice the combination of violin music and hiphop sounds.  Afterwards I went to last.fm and searched for similar artists. I discovered some more.

Miri Ben-Ari is one of the related artists. She is a Israelic violinist and recorded many tracks with famous musician like Kayne West, Akon or Lil’ Flip.

Another fantastic band I found during the “violin-hiphop research” is Nuttin’ But Stringz. They produce a Kind of R&B sound that is really relaxing.

There you go with some of my favourites:

Now enjoy the sound! :)

STV Gala mastered

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Past weekend my gym team had the honour to perform at the STV Gala «Gymnastics meets music» in the Hallenstadion Zurich. As far as I know there were around 7000 spectators per show and we had two of them. I was quite flustered because we had many new members in our team without much experience. The second point was that the music was played live from a professional band (Swiss Army Concert Band) so it was harder to hear the beat of the music.

Final

Despite all my fears everything worked great and we could elate the audience. That was a kick-ass weekend with many good memories! :D

I probably can present you a recording of it afterwards, it has been broadcasted on swiss television.

€dit: There you go with the promised video:

The full recording can be found here.
