Its a loooong time…

February 1st, 2010

…since I posted the last entry. This is because I wasn’t that motivated for writing anyhthing. Sorry about that…

Well, what happened in the meantime? I successfully started studying at the FHNW in Windisch and I’m really enjoying it. The professors are really capable and I already learned a lot of interesting stuff. Unfortunately I didn’t pass one module that dealt with electro-technics, but I’m looking forward to pass the rest. On the other hand I passed others very well, like the system administration module. Today I had the objective programming final exam and I think I made it as well. Now I concentrate on the two math exams, which make me the belly ache. So far, my first education comment.

Now some technical news:

Intel X25 The interessting other thing I want to tell you is the upgrading procedure of my macbook pro from harddisk to ssd. I own a 160G HDD and I wanted to move to a brand-new Intel x25 80G SSD Drive. My first approach was inserting the OSX Disk and boot it. Afterwards I tried to restore a just created timemachine backup. It all looked well until I tried to launch some application after the “successful” restore. Most of them could not be started and there was no way to get them working, even reinstalling them. I suppose the timemachine cant deal the fact, that the restore partition is smaller that the partition the backup was taken from.

However, my second approach was cloning the partition using disk utility from the OSX boot CD. Once again, OSX chocked on the big to small partition issue again. My only chance to clone it was resizing the partition to a size smaller that 80G. I did this using

diskutil resizeVolume “disk_identifier” 72G

but it always failed with the error “The partition cannot be resized. Try reducing the amount of change in the size of the partition.” Now I had a bellyful of the Disk and downloaded the GParted Boot Disk. Funny, but with the third party tool It finally worked. After resizing I booted the OSX disk again and i could also clone it. What a tough nut to crack.

Generally I’m really impressed from the speed of Intel’s masterpiece.

Holiday feelings…

Kitesurfing ComerseeHey guys! My last entry is some time ago and I decided to spend some of my spare time to write another blog entry  . I had a great time since I left the company. I went a week to the comersee in Italy to try out and learn kiteboarding and windsurfing. It was awesome. The wind was perfect (for my skills, of course) and we had great weather aside from the all-evening thunderstorm :D . After that I had to do military service for three days and it wasn’t a big deal at all. In the meantime until today I went skydiving and had fun with friends doing things in the baths or at several rivers.

Of course I did not forget the forthcoming school adventure and I started recovering my math knowledge . Believe me you forget faster than you realize. ;)

One last thing that I wanted to tell you is that I started learning for the driving license. I already passed the theory test in practice but at last I have to do it for real.

Now let me enjoy my last month of sweet idleness… 8)

A new era

June 26th, 2009

Netstream LogoToday is my last  working day at netstream and I already zero’ed my harddrive, so I have to write this blog entry from my newly-bought macbook pro. However, it was a really great time at this company, but now I had to make the break to improve my education as long as it is so easy possible. I am quite excited about the new challenge and I hope it will be a good time aswell. Until september, the study start, I have some spare time which I’m gonna use for kitesurfing and skydiving holidays. Afterwards I must go to military for three weeks, but I think it wont be a big deal..

Dudes at Netstream, thanks for the great time and I hopefully see you at the aperitiv in thirty minutes or somewhere else… :)

Well, so far.. move to fresh pastures !! :D

Gym and Cliffjumping season

June 16th, 2009

Me standing in front of an old railroad bridge Heya out there. :) I didn’t blog for almost a month now but its time for a new entry.  Last sunday I went bridge jumping with some friends.  It’s kinda mad but fun aswell.. We went to two spots, more precisely bridges, which are described in the book «Pied à la lune» (The french word for an Auerbach-somersault). I’m pretty sure that this wasn’t my last trip… :D

Me doing a double somersault backwardsOne week before my gymnastics team hosted the contests «Lägerncup» and «KMV». We had a great and successful weekend. I don’t want to deprive you of the following picture showing me doing a double somersault backwards at the rings (I am the one in the middle). At the next weekend we will participate at the «Schlossturnfest» in Ettiswil and I hope we are succesful as well.

Recommendable Podcast: Accessibility

May 21st, 2009

W3C LogoThrough a comment on heise.de I stumbled upon a podcast that deals with accessibility in the www. It’s recorded by the chaos computer club during a chaos-radio broadcast. They talk about the “how to design a website” and which types of handicap exist and how you can make whose lives easier. They also outline the new Web Content Accessibility Guidelines with the four basic principles Perceivable, Operable, Understandable and Robust. They also created a interesting draft for making ajax-applications accessible for handicapped users.
